Central Lutheran Highlights Pipe Organ’s 30th Anniversary with Recital Series

2024 marks the 30th anniversary of Central Lutheran’s magnificent Hendrickson pipe organ. To celebrate, the church will host a series of recitals beginning in February and continuing throughout the year. Performances will be from noon to 1 pm and are free and open to all. Donations collected from a freewill offering will support the instrument’s upcoming renovation.

February 21 – Alexander Meszler is an organist dedicated to interdisciplinary performance and research. He serves as College Organist and Assistant Professor of Music at Luther College. 

April 17 – Andrew Beine is in his final semester at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona. He is a multi-instrumentalist playing trumpet, guitar, and singing in addition to his outstanding organ skills.

June 19 – Noah Carlson grew up playing music in his hometown of Houston, Minnesota. He currently is organist at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN.

July 17 – Sue Walby is Director of Music and Organist at First Presbyterian Church in La Crosse. She grew up in a small, rural Lutheran congregation where she had the opportunity to accompany singing for many groups. Sue holds a degree in piano performance/pedagogy from Lawrence University.

August 21 – Daniel Lewis is a graduate of Winona State University. He has worked as a church musician in Owatonna and Winona. Dan is currently organist for St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Winona.

September 18 – Sebastián Modarelli studied at the National Conservatory of Music in his native Buenos Aires, Argentina, earning his degree as salutatorian of his class. He currently serves as Music Director and Organist at the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Rochester.

October 16 – John Stender is Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Rochester. He holds degrees in Organ and Sacred Music from Luther College and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.

November 20 – A. Eric Heukeshoven is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who currently serves as Director of Worship, Music & Arts at Central Lutheran in Winona.

December 18 – Scott Turkington will be familiar to all who have attended our Messiah Sing-In the past two years. He is organist and choirmaster for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse.
