Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St
Free & Open to the Public

The Winona Arts Center (228 E 5th St) is excited to present “The Gaucho,” a captivating exhibition showcasing the works of Ivete Vaz de Castro Martinez, a visual artist and the Executive Director and founder of the Med City Art Festival in Rochester. The exhibit will run from February 1 to March 15, 2026, with an opening reception on Sunday, February 1, from 1-4pm. “The Gaucho” celebrates a rich cultural heritage shaped by the landscapes across five countries – Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and southern Bolivia – and by two languages – Portuguese and Spanish. Born in Uruguay and raised in Brazil, Ivete Vaz has a profound connection to Gaucho culture, which is beautifully reflected in her artwork. This project is made possible through generous funding from the Southeast Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC). The opening event will also coincide with the second Sunday of the Seven Sundays series at WAC, where a live performance by local musicians Heidi Bryant, flute, and Lisa Douglas, piano, will present a program including pieces by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla.
