Classical Fun at February Jazz Jam | H3O Jazz Trio

H3O Jazz Trio
Sunday | February 15 | 2:30 to 5:30 PM
Two Fathoms Brewing
Come along for the ride as H3O Jazz Trio and Winona Symphony team up to support the Symphony’s annual Children’s Concert. This month’s Jazz Jam is happening in Two Fathom Brewing Company’s spacious taproom on Sunday, February 15, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Bringing the classic story of Babar the Elephant to life, the Winona Symphony Orchestra is excited to
offer area students an engaging performance that demonstrates music’s power of storytelling.
Babar is a classic story first published in 1933 by French author Jean de Brunhoff and is the first in a
long series of over 20 Babar stories for children. Translated into English in 1960 by Merle S Haas, it
tells the story of a baby elephant who is almost captured by hunters and eventually finds his way back
to his herd in the forest after many adventures in a town. Told through narration and descriptive music
by Francis Poulenc, Babar is a captivating story many American students haven’t heard. The program
will open with Rossini’s delightful overture to The Barber of Seville – a classic work that will capture
everyone’s attention.
Experienced by over 1,000 students, the increasingly popular Children’s Concert is an ideal
opportunity for area school children to discover the excellence of classical music through meaningful
engagement and fun performances. The concerts are offered for free through generous donations
and support. The performances on Tuesday February 24 at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. in the Winona
Middle School Auditorium are recommended for students in grades 2 through 5. More information is
available through the WSO website:
