“Why We Record: Defying Fragmentation and Erasure in Palestine” is a visual exhibit by the American Friends Service Committee and Visualizing Palestine that explores the truths of the past, the heartbreak of the present, and the possibilities for a future without oppression in Palestine. “Why We Record” will be at the Watkins Gallery, 225 West King Street, on the Winona State University campus from August 24-September 18, 2026 and will be open weekdays from 9am-4pm, with extended hours until 8pm on Wednesdays. “Why We Record” includes a collection of Visualizing Palestine’s visuals, AFSC’s archival photos, and excerpts from published stories on the themes of fragmentation, displacement, return, and future visioning. The exhibit is free, family-friendly, and despite the inclusion of difficult material, it is appropriate for all ages. Attending this exhibit with your community organization, students, family, friends, and/or neighbors is an excellent opportunity for learning, teaching, and increased understanding.
