Americas3 paints an international and intercultural, yet personal portrait of what it means to be American – North, Central, and South. The Native American, African, and European currents that have heavily shaped who we have become in the Americas, are embodied in the lead singers of Americas3. Through song, poetry, and narration, the program showcases how experiences of migration, suffering, work, love, and celebration are expressed throughout the Americas. The program offers a balanced mix of well-known songs with lesser known original and traditional pieces providing a musical and poetic expression of cultural blending. In Americas3, salsa and rock and roll classics meet a traditional Lakota lullaby and a cowboy tune from Venezuela; Maya Angelou’s poetry meets personal narratives; and musical virtuosity meets theatrical expression. Americas3 is a multilingual, poetic concert that weaves connections and brings out commonalities.

There will also be a free public workshop offered with Americas3 on “Cultural Perspectives in Music Education” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Performing Arts Center, room 154.

The performance and workshop are free and open to the public.
