Rooted In The Land: paintings of women farmers in Southeastern MN by artist Julie Johnston is currently on exhibit at the People’s Co-op in Rochester, MN. You are invited to the opening reception with the artist. Refreshments will be served.  Free and open to the public.

Julie Johnston traveled the region interviewing and capturing images of women farmers. Her paintings highlight the multiple aspects of farm work these contemporary women farmers do. Johnston’s art sheds light on the impact women farmers have in nurturing and feeding their communities. Johnston feels this project is a way to celebrate these historically “invisible” farmers.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.

Julie Johntson is a member of the River Arts Alliance. To learn more about the benefits of membership, please visit: riverartsalliance.org/JOIN.
