The Winona Film Society is pleased to present the 1981 documentary film, The Day After Trinity, on October 20, 2023 at 7 pm at the Winona Arts Center. Admission is $5 per person and the doors open at 6:30 pm.

The film tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who led the effort to build the first atomic bomb, tested in July, 1945 at the Trinity site in New Mexico. It features interviews with several Manhattan Project scientists, as well as declassified archival footage. The film’s title comes from an interview seen near the conclusion of the documentary. Oppenheimer is asked for his thoughts on the talks to stop the spread of nuclear weapons: “It’s 20 years too late. It should have been done the day after Trinity.” The film is directed and produced by Jon H. Else.
