Made by Hand: How Craft Shapes the Maker | WAC

May 3 – June 14 | Gallery Hours: Saturdays & Sundays 1 – 4 PM
Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St

The Winona Arts Center (228 E 5th St) is excited to present the exhibit “Made by Hand: How Craft Shapes the Maker” with an opening reception on May 3, 2026 at 1 p.m. at the Winona Arts Center.

When we think of craft, finished pieces of work come to mind. However, that end result is only one aspect of the craft-making experience. Artist Taliesin Nyala created this exhibition to go behind the finished product and into the ways that the work itself impacts the craft maker

Made by Hand: How Craft Shapes the Maker, invites visitors into the shops and thoughts of four outstanding southeastern Minnesota artisans: Lindsay Krage, Salome Acres (fiber arts); Zak Fellman, HRVNT (printmaking); Teresa Schumaker, Schumaker Pottery (ceramics); & Megan McCarthy (woodworking). Each offers deep insight into their own work and the benefits they receive from that work beyond just the end products they create. Additional Demonstrations, Workshops, and a Guided Tour are free and open to the public. For dates & times, visit www.hungrywoodworker.com/made-by-hand.

May 3 is also the fourth Sunday of the Seven Sundays Art & Music Series at WAC, with a live performance from 3:00-4:30pm by “mine mine” from the Twin Cities, featuring a dynamic mix of instrumental cover arrangements ranging from folk to jazz to R&B, all reimagined for a chamber trio of pedal steel, guitar and acoustic bass.

Taliesin Nyala is a fiscal year 2026 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural Heritage fund
