The Winona Community Chorale will present its spring concert, “Tapestry of American Song,” on Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16. This concert is a celebration of American music in honor of our nation’s 250th birthday.

Performances will take place at Central Lutheran Church, 259 W Wabasha St., Winona, at 7:00 p.m. on May 15 and 2:00 p.m. on May 16. Instrumental pre-concert music by Heidi Bryant, flute, and Lisa Douglas, piano, will begin 30 minutes prior. Admission is via free-will offering and no tickets are required.

The Winona Community Chorale is a 60-member, mixed choral ensemble led by Vocal Director Kurt Speltz and Music Director Lisa Douglas. The choir was founded in January 2023 and “Tapestry of American Song” will be its seventh concert. The vision of the Chorale is to inspire a love and appreciation for exceptional choral singing in our area, and to ignite the joy and human connection it generates.

This spring’s concert program celebrates the rich and diverse history of American music across the centuries. It includes beloved classics like “Shenandoah” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic;” songs made famous by American musicians such as John Denver, Elvis Presley, and Stevie Nicks; and selections from the genres of country, Motown, gospel, Broadway, rock and roll, and beyond. The choir will also perform a nineteenth-century Temperance Movement song arranged by Winona’s A. Eric Heukeshoven.

For those unable to attend in person, the concert will be live-streamed via the choir’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/WinonaCommunityChorale. Videos from past performances can also be found on the choir’s YouTube page at www.youtube.com/@wcc507.

Interested new members may join the Chorale when fall season rehearsals begin in late summer 2026. For more information, please email WinonaCommunityChorale@gmail.com or follow the choir on Facebook.
