Prospective or budding filmmakers will have the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals. Thanks to a grant from SEMAC and support from WNB Financial, Frozen River Film Festival will be presenting a Filmmaking Workshop series beginning next month.

Registration is now open, and there are sections for teens and adults. The first workshop session takes place on Saturday, July 23 and will be followed by 3 other sessions through summer and fall. Attendees are required to attend all four sessions. At the end of the workshop, attendees will have a short film they can screen at the 2023 Frozen River Film Festival. In between in-person workshop sessions, participants will have the opportunity to check in with the instructor via Zoom to troubleshoot their project.

The workshop will be taught by Alejandro Palacios, whose film The Latinx Photography Project was featured during the 2022 FRFF. Palacios has been teaching film and photography for many years, and is looking forward to returning to Winona. Palacios will be joined by Dr. Danielle Schwartz, WSU Film Studies professor, for some of the workshop sessions.

Tuition is $100 per person, which includes all classes, Zoom check-ins, as well as equipment and technical support where needed. Thanks to WNB Financial, tuition waivers are available for anyone with financial hardship or barriers. Those in need of tuition waivers should email FRFF Managing Director at director@frff.org to receive a discount code that can be used at registration. Class size will be limited to 15 people per section (15 teens and 15 adults), so those interested are encouraged to register early.

More information and registration can be found at frff.org/education. Registration closes July 15, 2022.
