Celebrating our 110th Anniversary, the Fall Concert brings the audience on a journey through the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Frederick the Great’s Symphony No. 4 in A Major offers a historic look into the 1700s. Italian opera composer, Giuseppe Verdi, created Symphony for Strings in E Minor in 1873. This rare composition is the only surviving chamber music work by Verdi. John Rutter’s 1979 composition, Suite Antique, will feature strings, harpsichord, and solo flutist, Dr. Rachel Haug Root (pictured).
Dr. Haug Root holds a BA from Luther College and a DMA and MM in flute performance from Ohio State University. She is a Flute Gallery Manager with Schmitt Music and has performed professionally playing flute and piccolo with Central Ohio Symphony, La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, Mankato Symphony Orchestra, and the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, Dr. Haug Root has toured with ensembles throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. Photo credit: Josephine Kuehn.
